Mort Gerberg

Mort Gerberg is a cartoonist and author best known for his magazine cartoons, which have appeared regularly in numerous publications such as The New Yorker, Playboy, Harvard Business Review and Publisher's Weekly. He has drawn several nationally-syndicated newspaper comic strips and written and/or illustrated 40 books for adults and children.

His Cartooning: The Art and the Business has been the leading instructional/reference work in the field continuously for over twenty years. Among his other popular books are Joy in Mudville: The Big Book of Baseball Humor, with the late Dick Schaap, and, for children, Bearly Bearable, Geographunny, and the best-selling (two million copies) More Spaghetti, I Say.

Mr. Gerberg has also written, drawn and performed on television news shows, been part of an Off-Broadway improvisational musical theatre group, and teamed with the late Shari Lewis in her home video Lamb Chop in The Land of No Manners. Mr. Gerberg taught cartooning at New York City's Parsons School of Design for many years, including an online class through the New School Distance Learning Program He is a former president of The Cartoonists Guild and a member of The National Cartoonists Society and The Authors Guild.

On the Internet, Mr. Gerberg has been an information content provider for ABC Multimedia, Prodigy, America Online and for BookWire.com, which also hosted his Gerberg's Gallery site and GreeThings, his online cartoon greeting card service.

For clients in the business world (e.g., Motorola, AT&T, Nestle, Embassy Hotel Suites, Fidelity Investments, Neiman-Marcus, Brooks Brothers, HBO), he has been a creative consultant, a member of ideation focus groups, written and drawn cartoons and illustrations for advertising and public relations campaigns and for corporate websites and been a speaker for special events.

Gerberg’s work is featured in the recently published Simon & Schuster cartoon book, The Rejection Collection. He is now editing an original hardcover cartoon collection entitled, LAST LAUGHS: Cartoons on Retirement…and The Great Beyond, to be published by Scribner in Fall, 2007.
