Environment

Upon opening Dec. 15, 1980, Beaver Creek Resort was the most environmentally sensitive ski resort ever built in North America.  The resort's continued efforts have led to environmental "awareness" among resort employees, guests, residents and community members.

Through targeted programs such as recycling, resource conservation, environmental education, wildlife habitat preservation and renewable energy, Beaver Creek has honored the foresight of its founders and continues to strive towards environmental sustainability.

History in the Making
Before the first ski run was ever envisioned, Beaver Creek’s founders and proponents had already laid the groundwork for interminable fish and wildlife habitat protection, travel management, and water and air quality guidelines.  These guidelines, still in place today, resulted in the beginning of
a continually improving environmental effort.

Fish and Wildlife Habitat Protection
As they planned the Resort and surrounding village, the resort’s founders took into account how to protect the wildlife and even improve the habitat.

Travel Management
During the resort planning process, and prior to Beaver Creek’s opening day in December 1980, resort officials and environmental planners were sensitive to vehicle traffic in and out of Beaver Creek.

Water and Air Quality Guidelines
Beaver Creek Resort's road maintenance crews continue to review and modify practices to maintain water quality in and around the resort and mountain.

Renewable Energy

Vail Resorts is offsetting 100% of Beaver Creek ski areas electricity needs by purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (REC.)

Resource Conservation
Simply put, our product is the great outdoors and as such, we have a special obligation to protect the environment in which we live and work.

Recycling
Beaver Creek is committed to Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.

Wildlife Habitat Preservation
From its inception and continuing today, Beaver Creek is committed to fish and wildlife habitat.

Environmental Education
Beaver Creek Resort has a long-term commitment to educate each and every guest, community member and employee in his or her responsibilities to provide an active role in environmental stewardship.

Spruce Saddle a 'Certified Green Restaurant'
Spruce Saddle Lodge is the first and only ski resort restaurant ever to be named a Certified Green Restaurant by the Green Restaurant Association.

Appetite For Life
Beaver Creek is committed to serving all natural meats and organic dairy products in its owned and managed restaurants, as part of Vail Resorts’ Appetite for Life program. We believe good food is fuel for a life well lived and we're on a path to source ingredients of the highest quality, produced in a healthy and sustainable way which is why we've created a partnership of like-minded companies: Coleman Natural and Horizon Organic. Vail Resorts serves natural, hormone-free meats and poultry and organic dairy products in our on-mountain restaurants at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone and Heavenly.
